Calling the citizens of the world to switch off all lights for one hour at 8.30 PM (your local time) on March 28, 2009. In 2007, 2.2 million people did the same in the world’s first Earth Hour in Sydney, Australia and the initiative continued into 2008 with a whopping 50 million people in 370 cities across more than 35 countries worldwide, switching off their lights for Earth Hour.
An estimated 1 billion people in 1000 cities around the world are being aimed at by Earth Hour 2009. Let us all be part of this movement for saving the earth from the harmful effects of greenhouse gas emissions. It does not take too much of an effort to do our bit; it just calls for turning off our lights between 8.30 pm – 9.30 pm on March 28, 2009. Be it our home or business, let us do it. In 2008 world landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge at San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, and the Coca Cola billboard at Times Square, NY switched off theirs. In 2009 iconic buildings like the CN Tower in Toronto, Moscow’s Federation Tower, Sky Tower in Auckland, Sydney Opera House have pledged to turn off their lights for one hour. So do switch off your lights for one hour on March 28, 2009 at 8.30 pm for switching onto a safer future. What began as a Sydney based event in 2007, is now a global movement about the urgent need for action on global warming.
